Maundy Thursday Celebration 4/21/11

The Community of Saint Augustine’s celebrates Maundy Thursday. Maundy Thursday is the day remembering Christ’s Last Supper with his Apostles. On this night Christ celebrated the traditional Passover Meal with his chosen twelve, with a few minor changes including; the Foot Washing, the giving of his final Commandments, and directions for that which we now celebrate as the Holy Eucharist.

Father George presented the sermon as Father Dennie celebrated the Mass and washed the feet of representatives from the Community. As the Eucharist was completed, the sacrament was taken to the Altar of Repose. Following the service members of the congregation sat in prayerful Watch before the Blessed Sacrament, a tradition remembering Christ’s request of his Apostles to sit with him for one hour while he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane prior to his arrest.
