Good Friday Celebration 4/22/11

(Veneration of the Cross and Mass of the Pre-Sanctified)

The Community of Saint Augustine’s remembers Christ’s death on the cross by venerating the Cross. The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John is read as members relive Christ’s final hours and death on the cross. The crucifix is processed up the aisle and venerated by all.

Communion is received as the Pre-Sanctified sacrament is removed from the tabernacle where it was held overnight (when members stood a prayerful Watch for an hour). Good Friday is the only day in the church year that the Holy Eucharist, the consecration of the Body and Blood of Christ, does not happen.
